New lease of life to enhance the retail experience

Amongst the hive of activity in the centre of the Brisbane suburb of Toowong, sits Toowong Village that underwent a transformation to enhance the retail experience for its customers and growing precinct. The shopping centre had remained in its original condition since the centre opened in 1986 and was in need of a makeover.

Natural light, finishes + materials

As part of the redevelopment, designed by Buchan for Retail First Shopping Centres, a focal point of the centre design was the three-storey atrium that floods the interior with natural light. Together with a neutral colour palette and materials, an elegant and contemporary shopping environment was created, while maintaining the intimacy of a local village precinct.

Custom capabilities + collaboration

Within the interior surroundings, feature a series of customised Pentagonal Island planter seats that bring the outdoors inside through the greenery they are centred around. Designed by Buchan and brought to life by Botton + Gardiner, these pieces mirror the five-sided shape of the overall building, while offering a place to relax for the busy shoppers within a number of transitory spaces.

Craftsmanship + attention to detail

Featuring Blackbutt hardwood and a powder-coated aluminium planter box in Structura Black and Electro Black Ace, the custom Pentagonal Island planter seats are both visually appealing and highly durable. Combined with curved steam bent timber edging using specialty bending processes by Storetec, the overall design is seamless.
