Waste management, designed for public spaces

Four projects. Four environments. Waste solutions designed for the way people use space.

From busy retail centres and hospitality precincts to coastal transport terminals, waste management is an essential consideration in creating functional, welcoming public environments.

While operational requirements vary, the design considerations remain closely connected: capacity, durability, waste separation and integration with the surrounding architecture.

Across four Victorian projects, botton+gardiner waste bin solutions demonstrate how considered product selection can respond to the specific demands of each environment, balancing everyday functionality with design intent.

Mornington Village Shopping Centre - Waste separation meets integrated branding

Location: Mornington, Victoria

Contractor: Neonico Construction

Product: Moreton Bins with custom vinyl signage

As part of the refurbishment of Mornington Village Shopping Centre, the existing waste facilities were upgraded to support both operational requirements and the centre's refreshed identity.

The Moreton Bin was selected for its dual-stream waste configuration, providing a practical solution for waste separation within the retail environment. Custom vinyl signage incorporating the shopping centre's branding was applied to the bins, integrating waste management into the broader visual identity of the space.

The result is a coordinated approach to waste collection that combines everyday functionality with a consistent branded experience throughout the centre.

Madame Brussels Lane - Greater capacity for a vibrant hospitality precinct

With its mix of food vendors, cafés and pedestrian activity, Madame Brussels Lane is a lively urban destination where waste management needs to keep pace with the demands of a busy hospitality precinct.

The existing bins offered insufficient capacity and detracted from the character of the surrounding environment. The upgrade called for a solution that could accommodate higher waste volumes while complementing the laneway's distinctive aesthetic.

Custom-coloured Torquay Double Waste Bin Enclosures were specified in 120L and 240L configurations, balancing capacity requirements with project budget considerations.

The upgraded bins deliver a more considered waste management solution, supporting the daily demands of the precinct while contributing to a more cohesive public realm.

SeaRoad Ferries Terminal, Sorrento - Coastal durability meets architectural design

Positioned at the end of Sorrento Pier, the new SeaRoad Ferries Terminal introduces a striking architectural addition to the historic coastal town. Designed to improve the passenger experience for those travelling without vehicles, the terminal combines comfortable transit facilities with a new café and a distinctive two-storey architectural form.

With its exposed marine location, the project required waste solutions capable of withstanding coastal conditions without compromising the building's design intent.

Three Corindi Double Bins were specified, featuring a Corian finish selected for its suitability in marine environments, alongside upgraded metalwork for additional coastal durability.

The Concrete finish complements the terminal's contemporary architectural palette, while the double-bin configuration supports dual-stream waste collection.

The result is a durable, design-conscious solution that responds to both the environmental demands and architectural character of this prominent waterfront destination.

Orana Village Shopping Centre - Coordinated waste solutions for a growing community

Developed to support the expanding residential community of Clyde in Melbourne's outer suburbs, Orana Village is a new retail destination designed by ClarkeHopkinsClarke for Coles Group.

The project called for practical, cost-effective waste solutions that would complement the centre's contemporary architectural character across both internal and external environments.

Four Fremantle Single Bins were supplied for internal areas, while ten Shelly Bins were selected for external spaces. Featuring Alugrain finishes to the doors and rear panels, the Shelly Bins complement the timber detailing used throughout the outdoor seating areas, creating a consistent material language across the public realm.

Two Avenue Seats with timber battens were also supplied for external walkways, further connecting the furniture selection with the wider architectural palette.

Together, the waste and seating solutions demonstrate how coordinated materials and product selection can contribute to a cohesive, functional retail environment.

Waste solutions shaped by their environment

Across retail, hospitality, transport and public spaces, effective waste management requires more than a standard approach.

From custom branding and dual-stream separation to increased capacity, marine-grade durability and coordinated material finishes, each project demonstrates the importance of selecting waste solutions that respond to their environment.

botton+gardiner offers a versatile range of commercial waste bins designed to meet the practical demands of high-use environments while complementing the surrounding architecture.
