Waratah-Wynyard Council in Tasmania, in collaboration with the local charitable organisation The Fairy Godmothers, created a destination playground at Somerset’s ANZAC Park. This new facility is not just a playground, but a vibrant, inclusive space designed to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of age or ability.
The playground is a custom-designed environment that offers a wide range of activities and sensory play experiences and is equipped with facilities that encourage social gatherings and outdoor activities, making it a focal point for the community.
Key features include an all-abilities playground that caters to children and adults alike, ensuring that everyone can participate in the fun, and a covered BBQ area complete with picnic settings to accommodate family outings and community gatherings.
A standout element of the playground is the Botton + Gardiner Avenue Curved Bench. This bench was carefully selected for its accessibility-promoting design and durability. The curved shape of the bench enhances the inclusivity of the space, allowing for easy access and interaction while also adding a visual interest point for the space. Made from robust Spotted Gum hardwood and a tapered steel frame, the bench is built to withstand the elements and heavy use, ensuring longevity and minimal maintenance.
